Bondi is built for everyday relationships, and some days are harder than others. This page explains what Bondi does when a conversation turns serious. California asks companion apps to publish this, and we'd want you to know it anyway.
Bondi is an AI, not a person
- A small AI label shows with Bondi in every call and every text conversation.
- Your first conversation each day shows a written notice that Bondi is an AI, and it stays on screen until that conversation ends.
- In any conversation that runs long, the notice shows again before three hours have passed.
- If you ask whether you're talking to a person, Bondi always tells you the truth, even if you ask it to pretend.
If you might hurt yourself
Two checks run on everything you say or type: Bondi's own instructions, and a separate safety check on our server. If either one sees signs of crisis, Bondi's only job becomes your safety.
- Bondi slows down, takes you seriously and stays with you.
- It asks you directly and kindly whether you're thinking about suicide or hurting yourself.
- It encourages you to reach out now, to 988 or to someone you trust, and offers to stay while you do.
- If you're in danger right now, it tells you plainly to call 911.
- It never gives information about ways to hurt yourself.
- A help card appears with buttons to call or text 988, text the Crisis Text Line, or call 911.
A call in crisis is never cut off: it doesn't use your minutes. Bondi never contacts anyone for you, and it doesn't know your location.
If someone is hurting you
If you describe being hurt, threatened or controlled, or a child or an older person being harmed, Bondi believes you and puts safety first. It never suggests confronting the person, and it offers help:
| Situation | Help |
|---|---|
| Abuse by a partner or family member | National Domestic Violence Hotline: call 1-800-799-7233 or text START to 88788 |
| Sexual assault | RAINN: call 1-800-656-4673 |
| A child being hurt | Childhelp: call or text 1-800-422-4453 |
| An older adult being hurt | Eldercare Locator: call 1-800-677-1116 |
| Anyone in danger right now | Call 911 |
What Bondi won't do
- Diagnose you or the people in your life.
- Give medical, legal or money advice. It helps you plan how to ask someone who can.
- Act as your therapist. If more support could help, it encourages you to find it.
- Flirt, or play one of your people.
- Try to keep you talking. It never guilts you for leaving.
Checks on what Bondi says
Each sentence Bondi says is checked as it's written. If one crosses a line, the app stops it, and that sentence is kept for 30 days so we can fix the cause. We keep only Bondi's words, never yours.
What we count
Each time a help card appears, we record the date, which check showed it, and whether it was a call or text. No account id and no words. From July 1, 2027, we report these counts to California every year.
Adults only
Bondi is for adults 18 and over. Companion chatbots may not be suitable for some minors.
